Today, Jake wasn’t at the park. I sat looking at the trains alone. Then, I got worried. What if he got sick? Maybe he moved away? Suddenly, the trains didn’t look so bright. I sat there for a little while longer. Then, when I started to get up, I saw Jake. “Were you leaving?” he asked. I sat down quickly and said, “No.” We quietly sat there looking at the trains for a while. Then, Jake spoke.
“Do you want to be friends?” I nod as my eyes started to tear up. “Let’s go home. It’s getting dark.”
Trains are great, but they run alone. They do the same thing every day. I did too, until now.

Alone 孤独
Suddenly 突然
While の間
Started ~し始める
Quickly 素早く・早く
Quietly 静かに
Friends 友達

Got worried 心配になる
Move away (遠くへ)引っ越す
Little while longer もう少し
Started to get up 立ち上がる

今日は公園にはジェイクがいなかった。一人で電車を見つめ始めていたら、突然不安に なった。病気になったのかな?まさか引っ越したのかな?突然、見つめていた電車たち はいつもの輝きをなくしているように見えた。もう少し僕はそこに座っていた。それか た僕は帰ることにした。その途端、ジェイクを見かける。「帰るところだったの?」 「いや」と言い、一瞬でまた座った。そのまま沈黙が始まり、二人で無言で電車をただ 見ていた。「友達になろうか」ジェイクは言う。涙が流れそうな僕はうなづいた。「じ ゃあ暗くなってきたし、一緒に帰ろうか」と彼は言った。電車はあっちこっちにいける けど、常に独走している、いつも同じことを孤独にしている。今までの自分みたいに。
